Africa Rally Championships Rd.2 Uganda Rally
2nd Place Finish in Another Troubled Rally!
In opening round of the Africa Rally Championships (ARC), Miyoshi and Ichino started their attack on the 2008 season with trouble even before starting the rally. Their Type Gr.N equipped Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IX was stranded at Mombasa Port and had to borrow another car, equipped with TYPE HG, at the last minute to compete in the rally.
The second round of the ARC was held near Kampala, Uganda from the 25th to 27th April, and Miyoshi and Ichino pairing were looking forward to a better round finally with their Lancer Evo. IX all prepared and ready. The Miyoshi and Ichino pairing fought and constantly through day 1 and finished the day in 2nd place. During day 2, lady luck finally shone down on them as their top rivals in first and second place both retired! This gave the pair the number spot at the end of day 2 with a 2:11 lead.
The following and final day was tough, as Miyoshi and Ichino's lead was cut to 40sec with only 2 sections left in the final round. Just as things were looking good, tragedy struck! Miyoshi and Ichino suffered a puncture with only 13km left in the rally! They fought hard and drove to the end only to lose out by a mere 32seconds! Heading in to the 3rd round of the ARC, their second place finish puts them 3rd overall position in both the drivers and co-drivers standings.
