Round 5 of the Finnish Rally Championships was held in the south eastern city of Kouvola, and was made up of 8 stages covering 92km of gravel roads. The TYPE Gr.N equipped Evo.IX driver, J.Salo was well prepared with numerous test miles covered and was out for avenge his 5th place finish in the last round.

 

As rally got under way, Salo set the fastest times on the second stage of the day, was only 4.3 seconds behind the leader at the end 4^th stage. Another TYPE Gr.N user, K. Katajamäki had a spell of bad luck and went off the course, which ended affecting Salo and the other lead cars. Salo drove hard to try and recover the time lost in the later stages, but unfortunately he was not able to reclaim the lost time and the finished the rally in 2^nd place. K. Katajamäki fought back from his mistake early on to come home in 4^th position!

 

Salo earned a well deserved podium finish, and this puts him with a slight lead in the overall championship standings. K. Katajamäki place 4^th place finish gives him enough points to maintain the 3^rd overall position.
