Round 8, the final round of the 2009 Super Taikyu series was held in the mild autumn conditions at Twin Ring Motegi's oval course. Two chicanes were set up in the oval course for the two 50lap races and intense battles with expected to reach top speeds of 250km/h. With the series championship still undecided, tensions were running high among the all the teams.
In the qualifying round, #16 T-MANOIL DIXCEL Okabe Jidosha Z (Z33) in class ST-3 was sitting in 2nd overall place in the series standings and fought hard to grab 2nd position. He was determined to reverse the tables and win the championship.
When the first race got underway, he was in hot pursuit of the #5 5ZIGEN NSX (NA2) but as the race progressed, a gap started to build. On the other hand, #15 KYOSHO Makers Okabe Jidosha RX-7 (FD3S) who ended up starting from the back of the grid due to machine trouble, pushed hard right from the start. By the midway point, he already made his way up to 2nd position and was able to cruise home in 2nd position with the #16 car following in 3rd position.
After a 2hour interval the second race of the day got underway. The #15 car had another great start and by the 3rd lap he was up to 2nd position. At the mid way point this time, he was leading the race. It looked as of he was on his way to victory, when mechanical problems on the 45th lap forced him slow down. He luckily kept the car going long enough to cross the finish line in 2nd position. This result meant he finished 3rd overall for the 2009 season. The 3rd place finish for the #16 car meant he was unable to turn the tables around, but he finished the season in a well deserved 2nd overall position.
TEIN users were able to finish another successful season yet again.
