Round 10 of the All Japan Rally Championship was a tarmac rally held in Shinshiro city, Aichi prefecture. Since its first rally back in 2004, it had rained every year, creating a bad image for the event. But for the first time, the rally was blessed with fine weather for the 2days.
The rain from the previous afternoon left wet conditions for the start of the rally and as the cars raced through the course in SS1, the gravel started to create unpredictable and dangerous conditions.
In JN-4 class, Ishida was battling to keep his 2nd overall position in the championship as 3rd placed Kitamura followed closely behind, leaving no moment to relax. Right from the start, the rally quickly developed into a 3 car battle. But in SS4 Ishida suffered from engine trouble! He was able to repair the problem but dropped down to 6th position. From this point, he started to make his charge back up the order. He drove ferociously and set the fastest time from SS10 to the final SS. He was able to make up on the lost time and finish in 3rd overall position, giving him the 2nd overall position in the series championship. |
