The fine weather greeted the opening round of the 2008 Super Taikyu series was held at Suzuka circuit. TEIN user’s were in the ST1 class #360 Nagashima/ Matsumura/ Tanaka trio in the Porsche 911GT3. In the ST3 class were #14 Asakura/ Yamazaki/ Furuya trio in the RX-7 FD3S, #15 Nagashima/ Igor/ Komatsu trio in the Fairlady Z Z33, #39 Iiri/ Akazame pair in the NSX NA2, the #113 Ihashi/ Tsutsumi/ Kimura trio in the Fairlady Z Z33, and the #81 Hashimoto/ Ueda/ Kitano trio in the Civic FD2. A total of 6 entrants participated in the opening round.
In the qualifying rounds held on April 26th, the #360 qualified in 4th position in ST1, the #39 qualified in 2nd position with the #113 in 4th, the #15 in 6th in ST3. and the #81 car qualified 7th in ST4. All in all, not as good as we all hoped, but everyone was setting their sights on race day. Race day was held on the following day, 27th, and the fine weather continued. The surface temperatures rose as high as 42degrees. Though the mood before the start was a little heavy, the opening ceremonies for the 87 lap, 500km battle started. The #39 car in ST3 drove brilliantly to the top in his class on the opening lap, only to suffer from some trouble and drop down the order. The #15 car drove constantly throughout the race to get as high as overall 4th position, on the 70th lap, up another position to 3rd. He managed to keep his cool and finish the 500km in 3rd position.
In this opening round, the #360 car in ST1 and the #15 car in ST3 finished on the podium. All TEIN equipped cars finished their races respectively, and you could catch a glimpse of the quality of the TEIN equipped cars.
The next round will be held in Sendai Highland, next month in May, with high hopes for all the drivers. |
