Round four of the Civic Inter Series was held at Fuji Speedway. The qualifying session brought a hard battle between top runners, Matsui and Taniguchi, but it was Kikuchi, a wild card entry for this race, who took full advantage of the slip stream down the final straight to take pole position. Another exciting race was expected as less than 1 second separated the top 12 positions!
Matsui started from 4th on the grid, but made his way up to 2nd position quickly. 1st place Kikuchi drove hard to get away from the pack in the early stages of the race, but by mid-race Matsui was right on his tail. The two fought hard through Dunlop corner making use of every inch of space to overtake, but it was Taniguchi who saw an opening during Prius corner, passing the two to take the top position. Matsui fended off Kikuchi and made his attack on Taniguchi, but he didn’t have enough time and finished the race in 2nd overall position.
Matsui gained enough points to keep the top position in the series ranking, as the drivers head to the next round at Twin Ring Motegi. A lot of excitement is expected as all three series will be coming together for this round. It is also the same race where Matsui turned the tables around last year to take the championship. So stay tuned for more exciting action! |
