The second round of the 2010 Finnish Rally Championship (FRC) was held from 19th to 20th February in Mikkeli. Extreme cold weather conditions saw the temperature drop to as low as -25 degrees Celsius, but hopes were high for J.Salo in his Type Gr.N equipped Lancer Evo.X.
J.Salo could not have had a better start to the rally by setting the fastest time in the first stage. “Actually, the gaps to my FRC rivals were quite large after the first stage so there was no need to push maximum after that”, J.Salo said confidently. He continued steadily through the rally and at the half way point he sat in 2nd overall position and had built up a 41.8 second lead over teammate and closest rival K.Katajamäki.
J.Salo maintained his fast pace until the end and went on to finish 2nd overall, and also gained maximum FRC points. “Of course it would have been nice to be on top of the overall results as well but it was not worth that to take the risk it would have needed.”, J.Salo commented after the rally.
This result now puts him in second overall position in the standings, just 1 point behind the leader K.Katajamäki, as the season moves to the 3rd round in Joensuu. |
