The summer season of the Finnish Rally Championship (FRC) started with the 4th round being held from 11th to 12th June in Kouvola in Southern Finland. Current championship leader, J.Salo in his Type Gr.N equipped Lancer Evo.X was looking to continue his strong performance this season.
The rally started with J.Salo and J.Lindroos going head to head right from the start. There were 7 special stages with 3 stages run twice. Short stages made up the early parts of the rally and J.Salo was in 2nd position, 8.2 seconds behind the leader J.Lindroos.
The chase for the top position continued throughout the rally, until trouble struck during the 4th stage, when J.Salo’s car started losing power. He ended up losing more than 30 seconds to J.Lindroos. After overcoming some technical problems during the service, J.Salo set the fastest times in the next two stages. However there were not enough stages left in the rally for him to catch J.Lindroos and he finished the rally in 2nd overall position.
J.Salo and the Type Gr.N continue to dominate the 2010 championship as he extends his lead by 19points. The rally now moves to Kerava for the next round to be held at the end of August. |
